Oracle and OpenAI announced a massive 4.5 gigawatt data center expansion through their joint venture Stargate, bringing OpenAI's total U.S. data center projects to over 5 gigawatts. The initiative will create more than 100,000 jobs across construction and operations. The Abilene, Texas site is already partially operational, with expansion planned across multiple states including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia. This expansion exceeds OpenAI's initial $500 billion, 10-gigawatt investment pledge. While Oracle leads construction, Microsoft Azure remains a major cloud provider for OpenAI, alongside partnerships with CoreWeave and Google Cloud.
