Meta has appointed ChatGPT co-creator Shengjia Zhao as chief scientist of its new Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Zhao, who helped develop ChatGPT, GPT-4, and OpenAI's o1 reasoning model, will guide the scientific direction of Meta's ambitious AI initiative. He joins Alexandr Wang, former Scale AI CEO, who heads the unit. Meta has recruited top researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and other leading AI organizations in a talent drive personally led by Mark Zuckerberg. The lab aims to compete with industry leaders by advancing frontier AI research and developing next-generation AI models.
