Anthropic has achieved $3 billion in annualized revenue, tripling its figures in just five months due to strong enterprise AI adoption. The company behind Claude AI assistant recently raised $3.5 billion in funding at a $61.5 billion valuation, with major backing from Amazon. Serving over 1,000 organizations spending $100,000+ annually, Anthropic has captured 3.91% of the generative AI market, with Claude reaching 16 million monthly active users. While still smaller than OpenAI, Anthropic's rapid growth positions it as a major competitor in the AI industry, with plans to expand development, increase compute capacity, and enter new international markets.

OpenAI is seeking court approval to proceed with its countersuit against co-founder Elon Musk in a dispute over the company's shift from nonprofit to for-profit structure. The case stems from Musk's August 2024 lawsuit claiming OpenAI betrayed its founding mission by prioritizing commercial interests through Microsoft's $13 billion investment. OpenAI countersued in April 2025, alleging Musk launched a harassment campaign to undermine them and benefit his competing company xAI. Business Insider is cutting 21% of staff across all departments in its third round of layoffs in three years. CEO Barbara Peng announced the restructuring alongside plans to integrate AI technology, a move criticized by the NewsGuild of New York as "tone-deaf." The company aims to launch new events coverage and reduce dependence on "traffic-sensitive businesses" as part of its strategic shift. The union attributed the cuts to leadership failures rather than industry necessities, particularly criticizing parent company Axel Springer. This follows previous workforce reductions of 8% in January 2024.

The New York Times and Amazon have signed a licensing agreement allowing Amazon to use the newspaper's content to train its AI systems. This deal includes news stories, NYT Cooking resources, and content from The Athletic, with potential integration into Alexa devices. It marks Amazon's first such agreement and The Times's first AI-focused licensing deal, coming amid The Times's ongoing legal battle with OpenAI and Microsoft over alleged unauthorized use of its content. Financial terms weren't disclosed. Unlike Amazon, OpenAI has already established similar arrangements with publishers like The Washington Post and The Guardian.
